James Augustis “Jim” McCory, 78, of Brownstown passed away Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born Dec. 11, 1937, in Brownstown, he was the son of James Frederick and Nancy Cockerham McCory. On March 16, 1957, he married Carolyn Sue Ira, who preceded him in death after 58 years of marriage.

Jim graduated in 1957 from Clearspring High School. He worked for Keiffer Paper Mill and in 2000, he retired from Union Camp/International Paper where he was the manufacturing manager. Jim loved the Lord and his life exemplified his beliefs.

Jim enjoyed playing softball for many years, playing on teams such as Kieffer’s, Taylor’s Hawks and the Travelers. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, golfing, horses and horseback riding. He especially loved spending time with his family. He was his grandchildren’s biggest fan.

Survivors include daughters, Julia (Terry) Cockerham and Jody (Kerry) Willman; sons, James M. (Faye) McCory and Jerry D. (Michele) McCory; two brothers, Neal (Susan) McCory and Jerry H. McCory; sister, Randa K. (Glen) Skaggs; nine grandchildren, Jon (Crista) Cockerham, Jeremiah Cockerham, Jordan (Melanie) Cockerham, Jena (Tyler) Wessel, Shawna (Ryan) Goss, James “Scotty” McCory, Matthew McCory, Kirstin (Dave) Oakes and Jamie McCory; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Beside his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Barbara (Frank) Bennett, Joan (Phil) Elder and an infant sister, Joyce Dale McCory.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Ratcliff Grove Christian Church in Brownstown.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Woodlawn Life Celebration Centre in Seymour and from noon until time of service Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be given to Ratcliff Grove Christian Church or Hoosier Christian Village.
