MUNCIE

Dorothy Marie Thomas Lacy, 75, of Muncie, passed away Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016, at her home.

Born Nov. 27, 1940, in Muncie, she was the daughter of Herman L. and Alice L. Minske Thomas, both of whom preceded her in death. She married the Rev. Donald C. Lacy, a pastor with the United Methodist Church, in November of 1959. They celebrated 52½ years of marriage before his death in 2012.

Dorothy graduated from Central High School with the Class of 1958. After graduation, she worked in the office of Dr. T.R. Owens. Her many interests included 4-H, Girl Scouts, Girls Club, reading, sewing, needlework, quilting, knitting, tole painting, flowers, lawn care and numerous other hobbies.

She held office in the PTO and both local and district offices in the United Methodist Women. A love of cooking and baking led to a published cookbook for her family. Additionally, she did many tasks of an active pastor’s wife over the years. She was active in keeping the Class of 1958 connected and compiled a directory for the 50th year graduation anniversary. A copy was donated to Center School Historical Collection at the Ball State University Bracken Library. She retired from the offices of Sears Holdings Corp.

Dorothy was a member of Yorktown United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. A love of family was at the forefront of her planned activities. She enjoyed the participation of her daughters in all their activities including swimming, softball, basketball, band, cheerleading, tennis and musicals. She loved watching her grandchildren participate in their activities as well as their parents before them.

Dorothy enjoyed traveling near and far. She and Don loved to explore the areas around the many places they had lived through the years. They considered those treks one of the benefits of new locations. A venturesome person, she could always create fun and share a laugh or a smile.

Survivors include three daughters, Donna Jean (Terry) Beyl, Sharon Elizabeth Lacy and Martha Elaine (Jeff) Graham; three grandchildren, Fillip A.L. Beyl, Natalie R. Graham and Justin D. Graham; siblings, Allan L. (Carolyn) Thomas, Edward M. (Karen) Thomas and Ruth A. (Robert) Gourley; brother-in-law, Mike (Alecia) Lacy; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
