Orville H. Schnitker, 86, of Seymour passed away at 1:18 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28, 2016, at Lutheran Community Home in Seymour.

Born Oct. 20, 1930, in Jackson County, he was the son of Albert and Henrietta Rust Schnitker, both of whom preceded him in death. He married his wife of 50 years, Mary E. Newkirk, on July 29, 1956, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Borchers. She preceded him in death June 27, 2007. 

Orville was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Borchers. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. He farmed his entire life. He was a former director at Jackson-Jennings Co-Op, a board member of Farm Service Agency, a board member of Jackson County Soil & Water District and held numerous leadership positions at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Borchers.

Survivors include his children, Donald (Susie) Schnitker, Lora (Mike) Willey and Lois (William “Bill”) Bryden; grandchildren, Emily Schnitker, Luke (Katlynn) Schnitker, Forrest (Jill) Willey, Leif (Melissa) Willey, Levi Willey and Chloe Bryden; two great-granddaughters, Eva Willey and Lyla Schnitker; and his sister, Mildred (Alfred) Fenneberg.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Adele “Addie” Bryden.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Chapel, Borchers, with the Rev. Steve Wood officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Borchers, with full military graveside rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled Veterans 47, Korean and Vietnam Veterans, all of Seymour.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Borchers, and from 10 a.m. until time of service Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Chapel, Borchers.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Schneck Medical Center, Lutheran Community Home or donor’s choice or charity.
