Robert F. Lahrman, 87, of Brownstown passed away Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016, at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour.

Born Sept. 2, 1929, in Jackson County, he was the son of Chesley W. Lahrman and Jessie Garis Lahrman. On June 23, 1951, he married Helen Hamer, who survives.

Robert was a 1947 graduate of Brownstown High School and a 1951 graduate of the Purdue School of Forestry. The Lahrman family was recently recognized a Hoosier Homestead Farm for having whose has kept the farm in the same family for more than 100 years.

Robert raised cattle and operated Lahrman’s Produce Market from 1951-2007. He entered his melons at the Indiana State Fair and won the largest melon award several times. He was the first building commissioner in Jackson County from 1969-1979, and was a teacher at Cortland Schools for five years, beginning in 1957. He enjoyed hunting and playing golf. He was a charter member of Hickory Hills Golf Club and a lifetime member of Brownstown United Methodist Church.

Other survivors include his children, Robert Bradley (Alice) Lahrman, Frank A. (Terrie) Lahrman and Marc A. (Angie) Lahrman; six grandchildren, Ericka Nolan, Katharine Lahrman, Elizabeth Lahrman, Phillip Zachary Gamble, Lute Lahrman and Jackson Lahrman; and five great-grandchildren.

Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Lynn Gamble; grandson, Carter Gamble Jr.; and a sister, Virginia Woods.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Brownstown United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kevin Stiles officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Brownstown.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Winklepleck-Weesner Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be given to Brownstown United Methodist Church.
