Irene Silence, 86, of Brownstown passed away at 6 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016, at her residence.

Irene had worked as a cook for Brownstown Central Community School Corp. for many years. She enjoyed quilting, reading, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had been a member of Brownstown Church of the Nazarene since 1948.

Born Jan. 1, 1930, in Little York, she was the daughter of Clarence and Mae Bowers Temple, both of whom preceded her in death. On June 12, 1948, she married Lloyd Silence. He passed away on Sept 21, 1999.

Surviving are three children, Steve (Derenda) Silence, Alietha Liebert and Alphia Ihle; two sisters, Lou Jackson and Violet (Jim) Ozbun; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husband, she also was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen Wheeler, Ruth Sutton and Masel Ray.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Brownstown Church of the Nazarene.

The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Her son, Steve Silence, will officiate with burial to follow at Vallonia Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, her request was to have donations made in her name to Gideon’s International.
