Duck Stamps available at post offices, refuge store

Federal Duck Stamps are available for purchase at most post offices and the Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge Nature Store.

The cost is $25. Stamps sold at the refuge, 12985 U.S. 50 East, Seymour, come with a certificate of appreciation and a collectible whooping crane poster. The Nature Store is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Ninety-eight cents of every Duck Stamp dollar is used to purchase wetland habitat for wildlife. Many national wildlife refuges, including Muscatatuck, were purchased with Duck Stamp money.

The wetlands purchased with Federal Duck Stamp dollars provide habitat for migratory ducks, geese and other wildlife. Migratory birds need places to feed and breed on their migratory routes.

A current Duck Stamp also can be used for free admission to any national wildlife refuge open to the public that charges an entrance fee. Muscatatuck is among the refuges that have free admission.
