Brownstown police issue warning about pond

Brownstown Police Department is asking town residents to make sure they don’t allow their children to play on the ice at the town park because of warming temperatures.

On Wednesday morning, police received a report of a child on the ice at the park, but that proved to be unfounded.

Ice needs to be at least four inches thick and clear, according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. Anyone venturing out on ice to fish needs to wear a life jacket and drill a test hole near shore. They also need to be aware that ice thickness can vary across a body of water.

Information: 812-358-2345.
