John S. Mohr, 58, of Seymour, passed away peacefully Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016, at his home.

He was born May 8, 1958, in Manhattan, New York, and was the son of Robert and Jane Mohr.

He was blessed with two beautiful daughters, Jessica and Sarah.

He married Julia Noblitt Mohr on May 30, 2003, at Peter’s Switch Church of the Nazarene in Seymour.

John graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor of Science in archeology, studied geographical information systems in Denver, Colorado, and completed his masters in GIS at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. He was a field engineer for AT&T in California and also was employed by Qwest Communications of Denver. He worked several years at Martin Engineering in Brownstown, before he took his career position with IUPUI as a geographical information systems coordinator.

John co-founded the Southern Indiana Model Railroad Association (SIMRA) and was also an active member of the Edinburgh Train Club. He was a very active and enthusiastic member of the Lake Monroe Sailing Association (LMSA). He enjoyed bonsai gardening, model railroading, fishing, hiking, camping, sailing and most of all enjoyed, visiting his children and grandchildren in Washington state.

John was a most gentle giant with a huge heart and loved all his family and friends with a zest for life unmatched. His loyalty and compassion for others was great and lived out by always offering helping hands. Words can not express what a wonderful father, husband and friend he was.

He is survived by his wife, Julie; his children, Jessica (Ysidoro) Mohr Ramos and Sarah (Bobby) Thompson; four grandchildren, Carter, Lopaka, Leina Kala and Iponohea; and cousins, Anne Stulpin and Paige Sinclair.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. today at Voss Chapel with Pastor Johnnie Spivey officiating.

Friends and family may gather from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Lake Monroe Sailing Association or Cornerstone Missions Voss & Sons Funeral and Crematory Service, Seymour.
