Gene L. Hollowell, 83, of Seymour passed away Friday, Dec. 30, 2016, at Covered Bridge Health Campus.

Born March 7, 1933, in Alderson, West Virginia, he was the son of William and Faye Saunders Hollowell, both of whom preceded him in death. On March 7, 1964, at Shiloh Baptist Church in Elizabethtown, he married Connie Page, who survives.

Gene served in the U.S. Navy from February  1952 to 1956. He served during the Korean War in 1953 on the USS Manchester, a light cruiser, and then worked in personnel, PN2. After the war, he worked for Cummins Engine Co. for 32½ years. He drove a school bus for the handicapped for Seymour Community School Corp. for many years. He was a member of Seymour First Baptist Church, American Legion Post 89 and Jackson Masonic Lodge 146 Free & Accepted Masons.

Besides his wife of 52 years, survivors include his children, Gary Hollowell, Vicki (Charlie) Harrison, David (Judie) Anderson and Sheryl (Ronald) Quine; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by his stepmother, Ella Mae Hollowell; a brother, William (Barbara) Hollowell; a sister, Mary K. (John) Green; and a brother-in-law, David Page.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Voss Chapel with the Rev. Larry Tingle officiating. Burial will be at Azalia Friends Church-Sandy Creek Cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled Veterans 47, Korean and Vietnam Veterans, all of Seymour.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service Monday. A Masonic service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Voss Chapel.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Schneck Medical Center or charity of choice.
