BROWNSTOWN

Phillip William Harmon, 92, of Brownstown, passed away Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017, at Hoosier Christian Village.

Born Jan. 9, 1924, in Bloomington, he was the only child of Paul M. and Rose D. Thompson Harmon, both of whom preceded him in death.

He was a member of Central Christian Church. His father was a professor at Indiana University in Bloomington. When Phil lived in Bloomington, he was an elevator operator at Indiana University. He came to the Elm Street Group Home in Seymour in 1991 and lived there until his transition to Hoosier Christian Village in 2015. He loved to walk and keep active. His favorite place to eat was Ponderosa Steakhouse.

Before coming to Elm Street, he lived at Four Seasons Retirement Home in Columbus. He delivered mail to all the residents there. He always loved to visit local nursing homes so that he could read to the residents. Phil loved to visit IU to see and remember where his father taught. The university would invite him to the alumni functions in remembrance of his parents. All the staff thought he was a very sweet man.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Burkholder Funeral Chapel in Seymour with the Rev. Kit Bogan officiating. Private burial will be Friday at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service.

Memorials may be made to the Elm Street Group Home.
