The Rev. C. Vaughn Murray, 94, of Greenfield, passed away Jan. 1, 2017, at Hancock Regional Hospital.

Born May 3, 1922, in Jackson, Michigan, he was the son of Charlie Murray and Edith Reynard Murray. On Jan. 27, 1945, in Muncie, he married Betty L. Harris Murray, who survives. They were married for more than 70 years.

Vaughn graduated from Chester Center High School in 1939. He received his associates in theology from Marion College in 1952. He served in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1945 during World War II. He was a boatswain’s mate 2nd Class and was honorably discharged Nov. 8, 1945.

He was a pastor for Swayzee Street Church in Marion from 1952 to 1960 and for Daleville E.U.B. Church from 1961 to 1966 before it later became Trinity Community Church. He continued to minister there from 1966 to 1983. He loved hunting, fishing, spending time with family and worshiping the Lord.

Other survivors include a son, Dr. Terry (Beth) Murray of Normalville, Pennsylvania; daughter, Judy Smoll of Greenfield; and grandchildren, Brian (Kelly) Murray, Tammy (Chad) Coughernour, Trent (Danielle) Smoll, Brad (Debbie) Murray, Joy (Kip) Adams, Tina (Adam) Hopkins, Brittany (Tim) Campbell, Nicole Murray, Chase Murray and Jordan Murray.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Leone, Chloe and Evelyn; an infant son, Douglas Dee Murray; son and daughter in-law, Mick and Julie Murray; son-in-law, David Smoll; and great-grandson, Braedan.

The funeral service will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory in Greenfield with Dr. Terry Murray officiating.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until time of service.
