Police continue to investigate a wreck that left a 70-year-old woman dead Thursday morning along Interstate 65 at the Jonesville exit.

R. Carolyn Brown of Scottsburg, who was a passenger in a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche driven by her husband, Gerald E. Brown, 71, was pronounced dead at the scene by Jackson County Coroner Mike Bobb.

Gerald Brown sustained possible life-threatening injuries and was taken to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour before being transferred to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, according to a news release from Sgt. Stephen Wheeles with the Indiana State Police.

Wheeles said Gerald Brown was driving north when he lost control of his vehicle on the snow-covered roadway. The vehicle left the east side of the interstate just south of Exit 55 and hit a light pole head-on.

Wheeles said both the road conditions and speed were believed to be factors in the wreck, which was reported shortly after 8 a.m.

Troopers Matt Holley, Jason Duncan, Seth Davidson and Tommy Walker assisted along with Jackson County Emergency Medical Services, Seymour Fire Department and 31 Wrecker Service.
