County board of zoning appeals meeting set

The Jackson Board of Zoning Appeals will consider two requests during a meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Jackson County Planning & Zoning office, 202 E. Walnut St., Brownstown.

The first is from Rumpke of Indiana LLC, which is seeking a special exception to update its five-year site plan at the Medora Landfill. That site plan now includes a proposed 60-by-60-foot shop addition and 80-by-120-foot recycling pad on a 41.95-acre site in the 8000 block of West County Road 75S, Medora.

The company recently received a $87,425 grant from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management to help establish a recycling collection point at the landfill. The grant requires a 50 percent match and Rumpke will provide a compactor unit with a receiver box and a horizontal baler with infeed conveyor to support the project.

The second request comes from Vernon and Catherine Bridges of 506 S. County Road 1250W, Norman. The Bridges are seeking a variance to operate a tool and die business in an existing 24-by-30-foot pole building on their property. The one-acre site in Owen Township is presently zoned for agriculture usage.

Board meetings are open to the public.
