Marietta L. Deputy, 100, of Crothersville passed away at 9:20 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, 2017.

Born Aug. 17, 1916, in Jennings County, she was the daughter of Charles Lewis and Gertrude Wilson Lewis, both of whom preceded her in death. Marietta graduated from Crothersville High School in 1933. On May 20, 1933, she married Farris Lee “Dick” Deputy, who passed away Feb. 12, 1983.

Marietta and Dick owned and operated Deputy’s 5 & 10 in Crothersville. She retired from Cummins Engine Co. in 1982, worked 16 years at Charlestown Powder Plant, and at the former U.S. Shoe Factory in Crothersville. She also sold Tupperware for more than 25 years, which she enjoyed and was truly passionate about.

Marietta was a member of Cana/Crothersville United Methodist Church and the women’s guild, Phi Beta Psi sorority, and Rebekah Lodge in Crothersville. She collected roosters and salt and pepper shakers, enjoyed going on trips, taking pictures and going through old pictures and reminiscing. She loved her family and her dog, Mutley, who preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Lewis Richard (Lois) Deputy of Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren, NaLona Bush of Crothersville, Mac Deputy of New Whiteland, Tim Deputy of Vallonia, Lisa (Roger) Garland of Vevay, Susan Murphy of Carmel, Michael (Stacey) Murphy of Columbus, Andrea Titus of Columbus, Elizabeth (Randy) Farmer of Pendleton and Matthew Deputy of Fort Wayne; 19 great-grandchildren, Brandon Bush, Anastasia (Michael) Snow, Alicia Deputy, Michael Farmer, Sarah Farmer, Weston Geyer, Bryce Deputy, Diana (Chris) Edlin, Beth Ann (Caleb) Dunn, Daniel Garland, Deborah Garland, Alex Garland, Andrew Garland, Hannah Garland, Lindsey Murphy, Andrew Murphy, Abigail Titus and Emily Titus; 12 great-great-grandchildren, Karli Snow, Kyle Snow, Katie Snow, Kloey Snow, Daisy Deputy, Eisley Pack, Analeia Pack, Ebenezer Edlin, Evelyn Edlin, Victoria Edlin, Liam Dunn and Beau Dunn; a sister, Jeraldine Wallace of Washington; a son-in-law, Robert E. Murphy of Columbus; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Deputy of Crothersville; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Murphy in 1994; a son, Jack Deputy on Jan. 6, 2004; a great-grandson, Tyler Lee Deputy in 2013; and siblings, Eugene Lewis, Neill Lewis, Robert D. Lewis and Wilma Jane Nowling.

Pastor Joe Wyatt will conduct funeral services at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Adams Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Crothersville with burial to follow at Cana Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4 until 8 p.m. Tuesday and from noon until the time of service Wednesday.

Memorials may be given to Cana Cemetery or Crothersville United Methodist Church.
