INDIANAPOLIS — Interstate 465 northbound on the west side of Indianapolis is closed for repairs after a semi hauling a mobile car crusher damaged a bridge at the U.S. 36/Rockville Road interchange Tuesday morning.

One person was injured in the incident.

Repairs to the overpass may take several days, Indiana Department of Transportation officials said.

Four of about 14 load-bearing girders over I-465 northbound are heavily damaged and will need to be replaced, INDOT officials said. Replacing the beams will require longer-term repairs similar to construction of a new bridge deck, INDOT officials said.

Northbound I-465 is closed at I-70 on the west side of Indianapolis. Also closed are the northbound ramps from Washington/U.S. 40 and the northbound ramp to I-465 from Rockville Road.

INDOT and state police are warning drivers that during the road and ramp closures and continuing repairs, traffic will be significantly affected, particularly during morning and evening rush hours.

INDOT is predicting that traffic on I-465 East, I-65 and I-70 in Indianapolis will increase significantly, along with I-74, U.S. 136/Crawfordsville Road, 10th Street, U.S. 40/West Washington Street and the Sam Jones Expressway.
