Shakespeare gets Seuss-ified in theater production

For Jackson County Young Artists’ Theatre’s next production, a William Shakespeare classic will be told in Dr. Seuss rhyme and include some contemporary references.

In “Seusspeare: Hamlet Hears a Who,” Hamlet still battles insanity as he seeks the truth behind his father’s untimely death, but this humorous retelling also has Ikea-style furniture and characters who won’t put down their cellphones.

The production will be at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 27 and 28 and Feb. 3 and 4 and at 2:30 p.m. Jan. 29 at Royal-Off-the-Square Theatre, 121 W. Walnut St., Brownstown.

Tickets are $8 and may be purchased online at jcct.org, by calling 812-358-5228 or at the door.

The story is written by Christina Hamlett and Jamie Dare. The directors for this production are John and Julie Rohlfing, and set construction is by Joe Bradley, Joe McGill and Joe Reynolds.
