The second Battle of the Badges basketball tournament is set for 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Boys and Girls Club of Seymour, 950 N. O’Brien St.

Five-member teams of police, fire and emergency medical services personnel will be participating. Proceeds from team registration fees will be donated to help build the Jackson County Dog Shelter in Brownstown.

The public is invited to attend the event for free. Canned goods will be collected at the door to be given to Anchor House Family Assistance Center and Food Pantry in Seymour.

The first basketball tournament was Sept. 12, 2015, with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department taking the title. That year, money was raised for the Boys and Girls Club, and canned goods were donated to Anchor House.

Then June 11, 2016, the first Battle of the Badges softball tournament was conducted at Gaiser Park in Seymour. Indiana State Police won the tournament, and proceeds benefited the Fraternal Order of Police Donald M. Winn Lodge 108’s Cops and Kids program and Hoosier Burn Camp.
