James Allen “Jim” Moore, 65, of Dupont, passed away at 5:55 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017, at his home.

Born May 27, 1951, in Madison, he was the son of William Albert “Bill” and Ruby M. Patterson Moore, both of whom preceded him in death. On Sept. 10, 1977, at New Marion Baptist Church, he married Rita Brindley.

James was raised in Manville and was a 1969 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School. He began employment with Cummins Engine Co. immediately following graduation. He was drafted into the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam era. He was honorably discharged in 1973 and returned to Cummins Engine Co. He worked in all facets of the company and retired in February 2012 after 43 years of service from the PPI lab working as an inspector and in quality control.

Jim enjoyed racing especially stock cars, NASCAR, his horses, the outdoors and his German shepherd, Toby. He was baptized and a member of New Freedom Baptist Church and held membership in Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion and the Diesel Worker’s Union.

Survivors include his loving sons, Christopher Allen (Julie) Moore and Kevin Brindley Moore, both of Madison; the mother of his sons, Rita Brindley Moore; a sister, Wanda Moore (Tom) Spurgeon of Hanover; an uncle, Paul Ginn of Ryker’s Ridge; and several cousins and other relatives.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, William Joseph “Billy Joe” Moore and Loyde Waynne Moore.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre with Pastor David Brown officiating. Interment will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery on Hall’s Ridge near Canaan.

A final salute will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral by Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion with full military honors to follow at the graveside.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 1 p.m. until time of service Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or New Freedom Baptist Church.
