Seymour musicians compete in contest

Several Seymour Middle School and Sixth Grade Center choir students participated in the annual Indiana State School Music Association District Solo and Ensemble Contest on Jan. 28 at Floyd Central High School.

Competing in the highest level of piano competition, Group One, was Risa Kunitake, who brought home a gold medal. Kunitake played a beautiful and difficult piano sonata by Beethoven and received a perfect score, according to a news release from the school. She will advance to compete in the state piano competition Feb. 18 at Perry Meridian Middle School in Indianapolis.

Participating in the Group Five vocal competition were Carly Kaiser and Madelyn Ramp, and both received gold medals.

In Group Four vocals, Liza Stuckwisch received a silver medal, while Haleigh Brott, Andrew Dickmeyer and Viera Robbins received gold medals. Robbins had a perfect score.

In Group Three vocals, Kaleigh Maschino received a silver medal, and Amelia Gay received a gold medal with a perfect score.

These students began preparing for this contest during the first semester.
