Seymour set for regional tourney

The Seymour High School wrestling team will send 10 grapplers to the regional Saturday in Jeffersonville.The top four place winners in each weight class will advance to next week’s semistate at Evansville Reitz.

Seniors John Shuffitt (126-pounds), David Shuffitt (132), Bradan Thomasma (170) and Dalton Miller (220) all look to advance to semi-state for the first time.

Seymour sophomore Brandon Pengegar (138) looks to return to Evansville after making it out of last year’s regional in the 120 division.

Junior Zack Newton (152) and sophomore Justin Ruddick (120) both return to the regional competition.

Junior Leo Pena (182), sophomore Kevin Corrales (195) and freshman Jacob Rotert (160) will make regional debut for the Owls.

Columbus East and Jeffersonville both bring 14 wrestlers to the regional, Floyd Central will field 13 and New Albany has 11 in the tournament.

Medora falls to New Washington

NEW WASHINGTONMedora couldn’t overcome a 12-point halftime deficit in a 71-41 loss at New Washington on Thursday.

The Hornets (1-16) scored just seven points in the first quarter while the Mustangs dropped 20.

Out of the break, the Hornets were outscored 22-6 in the third quarter.

The Mustangs, leading 57-29 after 24 minutes, cruised through the final eight minutes of play.

Hunter Browning topped the Hornets with 15 points and Brandon Moore added 12.

Medora will host Bloomington Lighthouse on Feb. 10.
