Evelyn Lorraine McKain, 90, of rural Crothersville passed away peacefully at 12:15 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, 2017, at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour surrounded by her family with hymns playing in the background.

Born Aug. 19, 1926, in Jackson County, she was the daughter of Leroy Smith and Ova Johnson Smith, both of whom preceded her in death. On July 4, 1947, in Brownstown, she married Roland V. McKain, who died July 4, 1989, on their 42nd wedding anniversary.

She retired from Excello Shirt Factory after 20-plus years of employment. She was a member of Tampico Baptist Church, enjoyed working in the church, where she participated in the women’s missionary group, taught Sunday school, served as the church hostess and as the “cookie lady” during Bible school. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren deeply.

Survivors include her two children, Jerry R. (Angela) McKain of Tell City and Judy A. Scott of Brownstown; two grandchildren, Michael J. Scott of Anderson and Jared M. (Whitney) Scott of Crothersville; and six great-grandchildren, Kennady, Dylan, Corban and Faith Scott, Hali Burton and Joshalyn Luenebrink.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward, John and Earl Smith and two sisters, Alice Rueter and Lavern Parker.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Tampico Baptist Church with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Brownstown.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Adams Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Crothersville and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
