James E. Bode, 69, of Brownstown passed away at 11:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, 2017, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.

Born June 17, 1947, in Seymour, he was the son of Robert Bode and Joyce Jaynes Bode Clampitt, both of whom preceded him in death. On Feb. 3, 1993, he married Joan E. Parker in Tampico. She survives.

Jim graduated from Shields High School and then entered the U.S. Army, where he served during the Vietnam War. After the war, he went to work with his father in construction. He then went to work for Dura Automotive Systems in Brownstown and retired after many years of service. He was a member of Brownstown Christian Church.

Other survivors besides his wife of 24 years include children, Jennifer (Daniel) Freese Drummond and Dana (LaTrisha) Freese; sisters, Judy Woodson and Diana Acree; brother, Robert Bode Jr.; grandchildren, Paul Cross, Logan Cross Smith, Ethan Shultz, Hayden Voss, Devin Freese, Gunner and Lariah Neal and Daelyn Freese; and six great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Voss & Sons Funeral Service in Seymour with Brother Paul Rogers officiating, assisted by Pastor Daryl Amis. Cremation will follow the funeral and burial will take place at a later date in Fairview Cemetery in Brownstown.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 10 a.m. Thursday until time of service.

Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Foundation or Brownstown Christian Church.
