Howard Frederick Pearson, 72, of North Vernon, died at 3:53 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

Mr. Pearson is survived by his two sons, Alvin Frederick (Amber) Pearson of Lexington and Howard Brian Pearson of North Vernon; one sister, Ruth Bird of North Vernon; three brothers, Raymond (Sharon) Pearson and Kenneth (Carol) Pearson both of North Vernon and John Pearson of Scottsburg; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home & Cremation Services in North Vernon with the Rev. Sherman Beville officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Burial will take place at Butlerville Cemetery with military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Matt Hester Post 2021 in North Vernon.

Fergus Loraine Phillips

Fergus Loraine Phillips, 91, of Seymour, and formerly of Toledo, Ohio, passed away Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017, at Covered Bridge Health Campus in Seymour.

Born Oct. 21, 1925, in Medora, he was the son of Murrell Phillips and Lilly Durham Phillips, both of whom preceded him in death. On April 19, 1948, in Toledo, Ohio, he married Betty Hively Phillips, who preceded him in death after 60 years of marriage.

Fergus was a U.S. Navy veteran who served as a radioman in World War II. He retired after 35 years of service for General Motors. He loved gardening, bowling in several leagues and playing cards with his buddies. He loved his family. He was a member of American Legion Post 112 in Brownstown.

Survivors include his children, Nancy Spangler, Melvin Phillips and Linda Sheppard; grandchildren, Kelly (Don) Kendall, Jeff Sprague, Kevin Sprague, Stephanie (Tim) Kosakowski and Jenifer Sheppard; great-grandchildren, Elasha (Brandon) Kepple, Garik Fleetwood, Brittney Sprague, Keaton Sprague, Cody Kosakowski and Ayden Sheppard; four brothers; and five sisters.

Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

A life memorial service will be announced at a later date through Voss and Sons Funeral Service in Seymour, which handled arrangements.

Eulah Fay Sherfick, 84, of Brownstown, passed away Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017, at White River Lodge in Bedford.

Rose Elene Smith, 81, of Columbus, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Born Feb. 28, 1935, in Broadhead, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Jerry and Dessie Hicks Logsdon.

Rose leaves behind many friends and family members.

Cremation has been chosen.
