The Brownstown Post Office plans to conduct a passport fair from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at 201 S. Sugar St.

Passports are required for all international travel. If your travel plans include visiting Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean or Bermuda any time soon, then you will need a passport. Current regulations state in addition to presenting a valid passport book when returning to the United States by air, you’ll now need to present a U.S. passport at land borders and seaports of entry to return home.

Passport cards can be used to travel into Canada and Mexico but cannot be used to fly internationally.

If you are planning a trip over spring break, this would be a great opportunity to get applications completed and receive your passport in time for vacation. Processing can take up to four to six weeks.

Passport applications can be picked up at the post office or printed online at travel.state.gov. All applicants must have a photo identification and either a certified copy of a birth certificate or proof of citizenship. Minors 16 and under must be accompanied by both parents.

Fees for passports are as follows: Adult passport book (16 and older), $135; child passport book (16 and under), $105; adult passport card; $30; child passport card, $15.

The Postal Service also offers a passport photo service at a cost of $15.

The application fee must be paid by postal money or personal check. Credit or debit cards, as well as cash or checks, may be used to cover the cost of photos and acceptance fees.
