A Brownstown Central High School senior was named the November 2016 Youth of the Month by the Brownstown Exchange Club at a recent meeting.

Ashley Kuhlman, daughter of Kirk and Nina Kuhlman, was introduced by club member and committee chairman Kevin Gwin.

She is president of the Brownstown Central FFA chapter and a member of the National Honor Society and Jackson County 4-H. She placed first in the Jackson County soil judging contest and received an award for being the top junior in FFA for points. She also participated in a tour of Washington, D.C., for high school juniors. The local program is sponsored by Jackson County REMC.

Kuhlman thanked the club for the award and said she plans to attend Purdue University to major in veterinary science.

Each year, the club selects students of the month for October, November, December, January, February and March and then selects the youth of the year.

Students of the month/year are selected for their excellence in academics, leadership, good citizenship, community service and development of well-rounded personalities.

The youth of the year receives a $250 scholarship from the club and is its representative for either the male or female youth of the year during the Indiana State Exchange Conference in June.
