Harold Lawrence Prentice, 71, of Seymour passed away Monday, Feb. 13, 2017, at home surrounded by his family.

Born Dec. 1, 1945, in Winchedon, Massachusetts, he was the son of Harold and Frances Minkler Prentice, both of whom preceded him in death. On May 26, 1973, he married Juanita F. LaFreniere, who survives.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at 17 and became a Seabee serving three tours in Vietnam, where he received a purple heart. He was honored to serve his country and continued his service as an honor guard member with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925 in Seymour. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed camping and traveling with his family. Of all his accomplishments, he was most proud of his family and the times they shared together.

Other survivors include his children, Terri (Randy) Banks, Kathy (Gene) Stivers, Diane (Scott) Engelking, Frances (Jason) Chew, Harold (Christine) Prentice II, Amy (Brad) Thompson, Becky (Greg Tharpe) Zink and David (Kathy) MacDonald; his grandchildren, Brennan (Tyler) Williams and Breighan Banks, Wayne and Brad Bott, Damien Rude and Wynonna (Brandyn) Sullivan, Nate and Thomas Chew,  Kyle, Cassidy and Kegan Prentice, Trevor, Abby, Nicole, Hannah and Zachary Thompson, and Jacob and Emily Zink; great-grandchildren, Lillian and Gunnar Williams and Zane and Rylan Sutton; a sister, Beverly “Debbie” Paul; and several nieces and nephews, whom he adored.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Alvin “Sam” Prentice, and two sisters, Anna Davidson and Clara Harris.

A military graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison.

A celebration of life service will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Tampico Christian Church.
