Seymour senior Jake Vance made a bet at the beginning of the season.

After making the IHSAA State Swim and Dive Finals on Friday at the IUPUI Natatorium, Vance can collect his dues.

His challenge? Make the state finals after taking time off as a junior.

Vance accomplished his goal, but his season and career came to an end after a false start in the 50-yard freestyle Friday.

However, the disqualification did anything but knock his spirits.

“It’s a great feeling to end here,” Vance said. “I didn’t do it my junior year, because it is so much on you mentally. I made a bet with a buddy. He said I wouldn’t make it to state.

“I just want to thank the coaches at Seymour for helping me and my friends and family for their support.”

Vance won the 50-yard freestyle at the Floyd Central Sectional in 22.31.
