Immanuel, Sauers 8th-graders win state

The Immanuel Lutheran boys and St. John’s Sauers 8th grade girls basketball teams each won their brackets in the 7th annual Indiana Lutheran Schools Athletic Association’s state tournament in Fort Wayne on Sunday.

ILS won their first-ever title while St. John’s repeated as champions.

ILS defeated Lutheran South Unity (Fort Wayne) in the final and Sauers topped Emmanuel St. Michael’s (Fort Wayne).

Lutheran Central’s girls placed third — finishing with a 3-1 record — with a lone loss to Sauers in the semifinals. LC bested St. Paul (Fort Wayne) in the third-place game.

Brownstown Youth Softball League signups coming to close

The Brownstown Youth Softball League will have its final day of sign-ups Saturday at the Dairy Queen in Brownstown from 9 a.m. to noon.

Girls entering kindergarten in 2017 through girls currently in sixth grade are encouraged to play.

Cost is $45 for the first child and $25 for each additional child.

Scipio baseball sign-ups coming up

Scipio baseball 2017 sign-ups are set for from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Scipio firehouse.

The league offers baseball for boys and girls ages 4 and older.

Age ranges will be divided as sign-up numbers allow.

Registration is $20 for the first player and $15 for each additional player in the same household.

Swim sign-ups

The Seymour Parks and Recreation Department will be accepting registrations for Spring Swim Lessons March 13 to 31.

The lessons will be conducted at the Seymour High School Pool in two, one-week sessions: April 3 through April 6 and from April 10 to April 13.

There are three time sessions available: 5:30 p.m., 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Children must be age 4 by April 3, 2017, and the cost for each child is $30.
