Robert Winton Downing, 85, of Seymour passed away Feb. 25, 2017.

Born April 30, 1931, in Montgomery, he was the son of Katherine Downing, who preceded him in death. On Sept. 2, 1961, he married Ruby Lucille Fields, who also preceded him in death.

He retired from Golden Foundry in Columbus in April 1996. He was a member of the American Legion Post and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Wehmiller Downing; two daughters, Angie (Dennis) Russell and Vickie (Larry) Caudell; a son, Robin Lynn (Tina) Downing; two stepchildren, Mark (Judy) Tape and Brian (Amy) Tape; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by a son, Toby Downing.

The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Voss Chapel. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by the VFW Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, DAV 47, Korean Veterans and Vietnam Veterans 7, all of Seymour.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until time of service Friday.
