Rumpke offering local scholarship

Local students have until March 10 to submit applications for a scholarship recognizing environmental stewardship.

One graduating senior in Jackson County is selected each year for the Rumpke Medora Landfill Scholarship, according to a news release from the Cincinnati-based company.

Applications are available through school guidance counselors or by contacting Rumpke at 800-678-6753, ext. 2617.

Applicants must live in the county, demonstrate high academic standards and extracurricular achievements, and plan to attend an accredited college or university.

Owned and operated by Rumpke since 1983, the Medora Landfill accepts municipal solid waste and construction and demolition debris daily. The landfill earned an environmental stewardship award from the Association of Indiana Solid Waste Management Districts in 2011. In January, Rumpke announced plans for constructing a new recycling center at the Medora site, which could become operational by summer 2017.
