Betty Jane McPeek, 82, of Columbus, entered the gates of heaven at 9:58 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at her home.

Born May 27, 1934, in Seymour, she was the daughter of William H. and Lillian J. Marshall Sanders. On Nov. 15, 1952, she married the love of her life, Richard L. McPeek, who survives.

She was a member of East Columbus Christian Church. She had a passion for music and was the church organist for 37 years and also played for many funerals and weddings. She was a 1952 graduate of Columbus High School. Betty loved to go to Zaharako’s to get a root beer float, sit at the park and eat lunch, and take rides around town.

Betty was a devoted Christian, wife, mother and grandmother. Her family was the light of her life, she loved her kids especially all her grandbabies. She will be dearly missed by her family who had many laughs and made many memories with her.

Other survivors beside her husband of 64 years, include a daughter, Cindy (Dwight) Murphy of Columbus; sons, Douglas McPeek of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and Blake McPeek of Columbus; grandchildren, Shannon (Jeremy) DeHaven of Fort Worth, Texas, Amber (Donovan Higgins) Murphy of New Palestine, Sawyer (Danielle) McPeek of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and Cody McPeek of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; and great-grandchildren, Lexie and Landon DeHaven, Trenton and Lilyan Kirchner and Nolan Higgins.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street in Columbus with Ron Bridgewater officiating. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday.
