IU beats SLU in NIT second round

The Indiana University women’s basketball team defeated Saint Louis University 71-53 in the second round of the National Invitational Tournament on Sunday.

With their victory the Hoosiers set a new single season school record for wins, as they moved to 22-10.

SLU built an 18-15 lead after the first quarter, but an 18-0 run by IU in the second gave the Hoosiers the 40-22 advantage at intermission.

IU held onto the momentum out of the break, and lead 59-41 after 30 minutes of play.

In the fourth quarter, the Hoosiers held on and emptied their bench.

Nine different players scored for the Hoosiers on the day, led by 17 from Amanda Cahill and 15 from Tyra Buss.

From the floor, the Hoosiers shot 42.6 percent on 61 attempts and half of their 3-point attempts (seven makes).

IU got to the line early and often, finishing 12-for-18 while SLU made one on four free throw attempts.

On Thursday, the Hoosiers will host the winner of Abilene Christian/SMU, who play at 8 tonight.
