Jane Coryell, 97, of Seymour passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2017, in Lafayette.

On June 4, 1919, in Jackson County, Blanche Jane Coryell was the daughter of George Ogle and Margaret Leona Denny Patrick. On Jan. 16, 1943, she married Walter “Pete” Waldkoetter, who passed away on D-Day, June 6, 1944. On July 16, 1951, Jane married Raymond Lee Coryell, who preceded her in death April 7, 1981.

Mrs. Coryell was a graduate of Shields High School Class of 1937. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Ball State University and her Master of Science degree from Indiana University. She taught physical education in Redkey, North Vernon and Seymour. She retired from Seymour Middle School as dean of girls in 1984 after 33 years of service.

Jane was an active member of Central Christian Church, served as superintendent and teacher in the Junior Department and a teacher of Seekers Class. She also was a member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship, the Loyal Devoir Society and Friendly Crusader class and a deaconess.

She delivered for the Meals on Wheels program, worked at the clothing center and helped with funeral dinners at her church. Most Sunday afternoons Jane visited family and friends, who were residents at local nursing care homes.

Mrs. Coryell belonged to the Indiana Retired Teachers Association, the Jackson County Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma sorority and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a life member of the Indiana University Alumni Association. In retirement, she enjoyed talking to former students, traveling, walking, reading and playing euchre. She believed in keeping her mind and body active.

Survivors include her daughter, Jean Ann Akers; her son, John (Rosemary) Waldkoetter; grandchildren, Andrew “Andy” Edgar Akers, Brady Patrick Akers (fiancee, Janean Anderson), Coryell Leigh (Keenan) Driver, and Cody Matthew (Jill) Akers; great-grandsons, Cohen Matthew Driver and Maclin Michael Driver; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husbands, Jane was preceded in death by her sisters, Lucille Rush and Anna Lee Patrick; and brothers, Don Patrick, Victor “Dick” Patrick and Jack Patrick.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Voss & Sons Funeral Service with Robin Everhart officiating. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 until time of Saturday at the funeral home.
