Michael R. Robbins, 64, of Edinburgh died Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at his home from complications of a five-month battle with lung cancer.

Born Oct. 20, 1952, in Madison, he was the son of Norman Leroy Robbins, who preceded him in death, and Rosamond V. Fallis Robbins, who survives in Columbus. On Nov. 18, 1978, in Nineveh, he married Debra D. Roach, who survives.

He was a 1970 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School and a journeyman toolmaker. He went on to become a manufacturing engineer at Cummins Engine Co., where he retired after 39 years. He enjoyed mowing and taking care of his lawn and riding his motorcycle. He was a DIY guy and enjoyed doing it, and he bowled for many years with a 300 series.

Other survivors besides his wife of 38 years include children, Eric (Stacy) Robbins of Michigan and Holly (Josh) Burton of Edinburgh; siblings, Danny K. (Carolyn) Robbins of Madison, Rhonda J. Wells of Columbus, Norma L. (Thomas) Humphrey of Ellettsville and Anthony B. Robbins of Columbus; grandchildren, Christopher Robbins, Crystal Boknecht, Wyatt Kinney, Zack Burton, Gavin Robbins and Taylor Robbins; great-grandchildren, Taiden Boknecht and Carson Boknecht; mother-in-law, Marcella M. Roach of Franklin; brothers-in-law, Gayland (Debra) Roach and Lonnie (Vickie) Roach, all of Nineveh; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and his special cats.

Besides his father, he was preceded in death by a son, Derrick Michael Robbins; father-in-law, Woodrow Roach; sisters-in-law, Sandra West and Cheryl Moore; and a nephew, Marc Moore.

Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Barkes, Weaver and Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street in Columbus. A private graveside service will be at Rest Haven Cemetery.
