Fish fry to benefit hotel restoration

0

The first fish fry of the season to benefit the Joe Jackson Hotel restoration project will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Whistle Stop, 2379 S. Main St., Vallonia.

Fish dinners including two sides will be available for $7, sandwiches are $4.50, and desserts are extra.

Proceeds will benefit the restoration of the hotel at 2420 S. Main St. It was built in 1914 and is listed on the federal and state registers of historic places. The hotel is now owned by the Fort Vallonia Days Association.

Once again, the hotel will be one of the projects for United Way’s Day of Caring. Plans this year are to finish installing electrical service on the first floor.

Fish fries are conducted on the second Saturday of each month during the warm-weather months.
