A series of events celebrating National Poetry Month has been planned at the Jackson County Public Library, 303 W. Second St., Seymour.

National Poetry Month, celebrated in April each year, was established in 1996 by the Academy of American Poets and has become the largest literary celebration in the world, according to a news release from the library.

The celebration includes drop-in activities for teens in grades 6 through 12. One person will win a book at the end of the month. Participants in the giveaway can receive one entry slip per day until the April 27 drawing.

Other events planned include sidewalk chalk poetry at 5 p.m. April 12 and National Poem in Your Pocket Day on April 21.
