Mary Rosemen Sanders Payne, 83, of Freetown, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2017.

Born June 21, 1933, in Hope, she was the daughter of Isreal Fielden Leighton and Irene Nellie Cowin Sanders. On Oct. 24, 1953, she married Meredith Edgar Payne, who passed away Jan. 29, 2016.

She was a graduate of Marydel Catholic School and attended St. Ambrose Catholic Church. Mary was retired, having worked at Arvins Industry Inc. for many years. She loved being outside, picking blackberries and hunting for ginseng, which she did for fun and money for Christmas presents for grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughters, Margaret (Lonnie) Waggoner of North Vernon and Melody Jones (Chris) of Seymour; her sons, Meredith Joseph Payne of North Vernon and Mark Payne (Tabitha) of Seymour; her sisters, Evelyn Skyler, Betty Keel and Norma Ray; and 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband; she was preceded in death by her siblings, Nelly Brown, Elizabeth Mulis, Isreal Sanders, Archie Sanders and Clarence Sanders.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Woodlawn Freetown Chapel in Freetown. 

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Woodlawn Freetown Chapel.

A graveside service will be at a later date at Houston Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Ambrose Catholic Church.
