James Brown, 78, of Crothersville passed away Monday, April 10, 2017, at his residence.

Born June 5, 1938, in Ripley County, he was the son of James H. Brown and Merle Vernon Brown, both of whom preceded him in death. On June 29, 1961, he married Elizabeth Elliott Brown, who survives.

James was a U.S. Navy veteran who served on the USS Terrill County. He retired from Cummins Engine Co. in Columbus and was a member of Ivy Hill Baptist Church in Underwood.

He loved his grandkids and great-grandkids and enjoyed watching NASCAR, with his favorite driver being Tony Stewart, fishing and life itself. He was always smiling and was friends with everyone.

Survivors include his sons, Mike (Brenda) Brown, Jimmie Brown and Bennie (Judy) Brown, all of Crothersville; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Glenna McMillan and Shirley Smith.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Buchanan Funeral Home in Austin, with Pastor Randy King officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Ivy Hill Cemetery in Underwood.
