MOUNT WASHINGTON, Ky.

Austin W. “Dick” Akin, 88, of Mount Washington, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017, at Green Meadows Health Care Center.

Born Feb. 16, 1929, in Greensburg, Kentucky, he was the son of Nora Wayne and Elliott Washington Akin, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Shirley Ann Duggins Akin, who survives.

He was staff sergeant in the U.S. Army for nine years, serving during the Korean War. He was retired from Brown-Forman.

Other survivors include a son, Robert (Brenda) Akin; three stepdaughters, Donna (John) VandeMark, Susan Matthews and Lori (Troy) Milburn; three grandchildren, Traci (Chad) DeBord of Columbus, Jeremy Akin of Wilmington, North Carolina, and Andrew (Christy) Akin, Seymour; and seven great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Bosse Funeral Home, 1355 Ellison Ave., Louisville, Kentucky. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
