The Big Oaks Conservation Society and Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge will conduct the 13th annual Outdoor Women at Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge on June 10 at Old Timbers Lodge near Madison.

The one-day program is designed to offer girls 12 and older and women an opportunity to gain in-the-field skills in an environment that encourages fun and success in the outdoors, according to a news release.

The program teaches outdoor skills to women through a variety of courses, including fishing, archery, shooting sports, wilderness survival, outdoor photography, canoeing/kayaking, bird watching and more. This event is also designed to foster an appreciation for wildlife conservation and allows women to meet others who share their enthusiasm for the outdoors.

Registration forms can be downloaded from fws.gov/refuge/big_oaks. Call the refuge office at 812-273-0783 to receive a mailed registration form.

Some classes are limited in size, so early registration is recommended. Deadline for early registration is May 6.

The fee includes a choice of four courses, continental breakfast, lunch, use of equipment and supplies and a day pass to the refuge. Registration fees can be viewed online.
