Three Jackson County volunteer fire departments were called to fight a barn fire late Sunday night in the Tampico area.

The large barn, on property owned by William and Marie Burgess at 5199 S. County Road 400E, was destroyed by the blaze reported at 10:05 p.m Sunday, said Jay Newberry, chief of the Grassy Fork Township Volunteer Fire Department.

Volunteers with that department were the first to be called to the scene. Brownstown and Crothersville-Vernon volunteer firefighters eventually were called for assistance.

Firefighters also were sent back to barn after the fire rekindled at 3:07 a.m. Monday.
