The Jackson County History Center plans to conduct the Jackson County Backyard BBQ Cook-Off on May 12 and 13 at the history center campus, 105 N. Sugar St., Brownstown.

Four different classes of meats will be judged — chicken, ribs, pork and brisket. The entry fee is $75 through May 6 and $80 afterwards. Water and electric are available.

There will be a build-a-burger/showmanship contest at noon May 13. Winners, including a People’s Choice award, will be announced at 4 p.m. May 13.

The history center will have porkburgers available for purchase May 13.

Contest rules are non-sanctioned backyard-style contest; however, Kansas City Barbeque Society rules apply except in cases of difference in contest format or procedure. The contest coordinator’s decisions are final.
