Local sectional changes announced

The IHSAA’s executive committee approved sectional assignments for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 school years Monday afternoon.

Numerous Jackson County schools will see changes to their postseasons.

FOOTBALL

Seymour — who as moved to Class 5A — will join Sectional 15 with Columbus East, Bedford North Lawrence, Floyd Central and New Albany. All of the teams represent the Hoosier Hills Conference.

The Class 3A Sectional 31 draw will feature Brownstown Central, Batesville, Lawrenceburg, Charlestown, Corydon Central, Greensburg, North Harrison and Salem. Lawrenceburg and Brownstown Central met in last year’s semistate.

VOLLEYBALL

Providence’s volleyball team moves out of Brownstown Central’s sectional and into Seymour’s bracket. Providence bumps from 3A to 4A due to success factor in the state tournament.

In Sectional 15 it will be Seymour, Providence, Jennings County, Jeffersonville, Floyd Central and Bedford North Lawrence.

Brownstown Central, Charlestown, Corydon, North Harrison, Salem, Scottsburg and Silver Creek now make up Sectional 30.

Class Sectional 62 says goodbye to Borden and Orleans. Crothersville, Medora and Trinity Lutheran now have West Washington, Shawe Memorial and Edinburgh in the postseason.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

North Harrison’s jump to 4A from 3A will effect both Seymour and Brownstown Central.

For Class 3A Sectional 30, Brownstown Central joins Charlestown, Corydon Central, Salem, Scottsburg and Silver Creek.

North Harrison goes to Class 4A Sectional 15 with Seymour, Bedford North Lawrence, Floyd Central, Jeffersonville, Jennings County and New Albany.

Class A Sectional 62 will have the same teams as volleyball.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Only the Class A Sectional 62 draw changes, mirroring both the girls basketball and volleyball teams.

SOCCER

All of the local soccer teams will face changes in the fall.

Class 2A Sectional 15 in boys’ soccer will feature a number of strong teams, with Columbus East and North, Floyd Central, Jeffersonville, Jennings County, New Albany and Seymour in the mix.

The Columbus schools will not play against Seymour in the sectional. SHS is slated to play the likes of Bedford North Lawrence, Floyd Central, Jeffersonville, Jennings County and New Albany.

Trinity Lutheran’s boys, in Class A Sectional 47, now faces, Austin, Christian Academy of Indiana, Lanesville, Providence and Rock Creek. The girls now go up against Christian Academy, Providence, Salem and Southwestern (Hanover).
