Cemetery group hosting hog roast

The Clearspring Cemetery Association’s third annual hog roast and gathering will be May 29 at Clearspring Baptist Church, 2490 N. County Road 925W, Norman.

The event will consist of a hog roast, a gospel sing, an opportunity to bid on a raffle basket, a beanbag toss and more.

Food will be available for purchase starting at 11 a.m., and music, featuring Sure Shot Turkey Dusters and The Cowboys Want to Be, starts at 12:30 p.m. Clearspring T-shirts also will be available for purchase.

Proceeds will go toward the costs of maintaining and improving the cemetery.

Donations from family members and friends of the cemetery for mowing and general maintenance are being accepted. Send cash, check or payment in-kind to Linda Toppe, 3209 N. County Road 900W, Brownstown, IN 47220.

The cemetery has two gravel entrances to the gravesites after association board Vice President Jeff Jackson worked with the Jackson County Highway Department to make it happen.

Numerous trees need to be removed to preserve the headstones in the cemetery. The upcoming project is to place a fence along the front of the cemetery.

The old part of the cemetery is full, so the board has been working on making an accurate map and plot markers.

Plots are available for purchase by contacting one of the board members. A single plot is $300, and a double plot is $500.

Along with Jackson, the board members are Jim Cooper, president; Toppe and Stacy Cooper, secretary/treasurer; Bob Petro; Kevin Crockett; Brandon Crockett; and David Crockett.
