TEMPE, Ariz. — The Latest on a shooting by Tempe police (all times local):
Tempe police say a man who stabbed a police officer in the arm with a large knife during a struggle after a car wreck has died after being shot by another police officer.
Police described the wounded officer’s injury as non-life threatening. No identities were released.
The incident occurred Tuesday morning on a residential street near Rural Road and Southern Avenue.
Neighborhood resident Steve Cohn told KTVK-TV (https://goo.gl/gMB5tr ) that the man who was shot by police swore at him and spin on him when Cohn and others went to help after the man slammed a car into a parked vehicle.
A Tempe police officer has been transported to a hospital with what are described by police as non-life threatening injuries following a shooting, and police say a suspect also was taken to a hospital.
No information is immediately available on the suspect’s condition or circumstances of the Tuesday morning incident.
News video showed the officer and the suspect being loaded into ambulances.
