HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Southern Mississippi outfielder and pitcher Matt Wallner has been invited to attend the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team’s training camp this summer.

Wallner has been one of the nation’s best freshmen this season, hitting .330 with a team-high 15 homers and 49 RBIs. He’s second in Conference USA with a .659 slugging percentage. The Forest Lake, Minnesota, native also has a 2-0 record, 1.84 ERA and three saves on the mound in eight appearances.

Wallner will be competing for a spot on USA’s 24-man roster. The team will train in Cary, North Carolina, and play a series of games against Chinese Taipei and Cuba from June 27 to July 7.
