A Florida man suffered serious injuries in a two-vehicle crash Sunday morning on U.S. 31 just south of Crothersville, police report.

Corey McGary, 27, of North Port, Florida, sustained head and neck injuries and was treated at the scene by Jackson County Emergency Medical Services personnel, said Officer Jeff Walters with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.

He was transported to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour before being flown to a regional hospital after the wreck, reported at 8:41 a.m. in the 7400 block of U.S. 31, just south of the Crothersville exit of Interstate 65.

Walters said McGary was hurt when the 2001 Volkswagen passenger car he was driving north crossed the center line and hit a 2013 Dodge Journey driven by Susan H. Basil, 51, of rural Crothersville.

Basil, who was not injured, swerved to avoid McGary’s vehicle, Walters said.

“He hit the back of her vehicle, causing it to spin around and off the road,” he said.

The back of her vehicle then hit a tree, he said.

McGary’s truck also left the road and flipped over, Walters said.
