PORTLAND, Maine — The last of three Maine men charged with beating and kicking a man to death in his apartment has been sentenced to prison.

Abil Teshome was sentenced Tuesday to 12 ½ years for manslaughter.

Prosecutors say Teshome, along with Osman Sheikh and Mohamud Mohamed, beat Freddy Akoa for hours in August 2015, leaving him with a lacerated liver, head injuries and dozens of rib fractures.

Teshome apologized to Akoa’s family and said he should have stood up to Mohamed. Mohamed, whom the judge identified as the primary aggressor, was previously sentenced to 30 years. Sheikh received a 3-year sentence.
