BURGETTSTOWN, Pa. — Authorities say the deaths of a couple whose bodies were found in their western Pennsylvania home are being investigated as an apparent murder-suicide.

The (Washington) Observer-Reporter (http://bit.ly/2rrNegR ) reports that the two were found by a neighbor just after 8 a.m. Wednesday in Jefferson Township. Sgt. Dale Brown said a relative who worked with the man called the neighbor after he didn’t show up for work.

The Washington County coroner’s office said 53-year-old Lorraine Smith died of a gunshot wound from 53-year-old Edward Smith Jr., who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The manner of death for both was pending autopsies. State police are investigating.
