HIGH POINT, N.C. — The president of High Point University will lead the city’s effort to develop the downtown area with several projects, including a minor-league baseball stadium.
The News & Record reports (http://bit.ly/2rtM8Rw ) that Nido Qubein announced a plan Wednesday to raise $38 million from private donors by mid-September and lead efforts to secure stadium naming rights and attract a baseball team.
Qubein says he has no financial interest or stake in the development project and was asked to head up efforts by Forward High Point, a new nonprofit dedicated to the downtown revitalization and ballpark project. He will remain president of the university.
The city council approved a plan last month to buy four square blocks in downtown and build a $30 million stadium, envisioning it as a catalyst for other projects.
